John, it’s an election year, and I can imagine what your email inbox looks like right now. Countless emails from candidates asking for money, telling you that your contribution will be the one that propels them into office.
I know because my inbox looks exactly the same.
And I’ll be honest upfront, I’m not running for office, but I’m going to be asking you for a contribution, too. But the difference is, I’ll tell you exactly what your gift to Common Cause will accomplish, and the real, measurable impact you’ll have on a first-time (or long-time) voter’s experience.
As I’m sure you’ve seen already, we here at Common Cause are in the thick of our Election Protection work – training and placing volunteers across the country to help voters navigate intimidation at the polls.
And it’s not without cause. Millions of voters are going to face new challenges at the ballot box this year – and it’s intentional. Last year, states passed 17 new restrictive voting laws to infringe on one of our most fundamental rights as Americans – the right to vote. [1]
That’s why we’re already recruiting and training volunteers, and have been for months – to help voters through the primaries, early voting, and Election Day. And I have no intention of stopping anytime soon – in fact, I’m ramping up my efforts to recruit and train volunteers ahead of this November’s elections.
Every Election Protection volunteer goes through a training program where they learn to navigate their state’s unique voting laws and get paired up with a polling site we’ve identified as in need of extra support. Our team did a cost analysis and found that from start to finish, recruiting, training and placing one volunteer costs us around $50.
Now, I know I’m not the only one in your inbox asking you to make a gift right now, and I know from experience how difficult it can be to field these requests and decide where to put your hard-earned money.
What I can tell you is that $50 is a drop in the bucket for many of the candidates asking for money in your inbox – one thousandth of one more TV ad, or of some political consultant’s paycheck.
But for us at Common Cause, $50 translates to one more volunteer placed in the field and dozens of voters helped in just one of the volunteer’s shifts.
So, as you’re deciding which causes to give to, I hope you’ll consider making an impact with Common Cause by sponsoring an Election Protection Volunteer today >>
If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:
It’s ultimately your decision where your money goes, and it’s not an easy one, but I hope you’ll consider making a measurable impact with your dollars by sponsoring an Election Protection volunteer.
Thank you,
