** Joint Committee on Assisted Dying Recommends Legislation for Euthanasia

On Wednesday, the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Assisted Dying recommended the introduction of legalisation regulating assisted suicide and euthanasia in its majority report. This decision has been criticised by three members of the Joint Committee, who launched their own minority report: Deputy Michael Healy-Rae (chairman of the Joint Committee), Deputy Robert Troy, and Senator Rónán Mullen.

** Watching aborted baby “gasping for breath scarred me for life”, says prominent British politician

Earlier this week, long-standing British MP, Nadine Dorries, penned a very striking piece in the Daily Mail about the profound impact being present for a late-term abortion had on her as a young nurse.

Dorries wrote the piece in response to attempts being made to fully decriminalise abortion in the UK and the push at present by two Labour MPs - Dame Diana Johnson and Stella Creasy - to legalise abortion on request up to birth.

** Pro-life message in blockbuster film upsets the critics

The science fiction film ‘Dune: Part Two’, currently on release in cinemas across Ireland, contains what can only be described as a pro-life scene.

Early on in the Academy Award-winning 2024 feature film, an unborn baby appears on screen. Later on, it emerges that it’s the preborn child of one of the leading characters, Lady Jessica.
