The Moore You Know Veterans Update | Hello, friends! Veterans’ issues remain a priority for me in the 118th Congress. Direct input from Veterans, military families, and caregivers, is crucial in making sure the policy put forward in Congress matches the needs of those who have risked everything for our country. As an Alabamian and a Veteran, it is my goal to advocate for the issues that matter most to you. It is also important for me to keep you updated on the work I am doing for you in Washington, and I hope you will find this newsletter insightful going forward. In the meantime, please fill out the survey linked here to help me fight for you! If you have filled out the survey previously and do not have an update to share, you do not need to fill it out again. | Rep. Barry Moore Member of Congress | Recently, I cosponsored the VA Loan Disclosure Act as well as the VA Home Loan Awareness Act which would ensure that Veterans are aware of home lending services exclusively for them. I also cosponsored the Wings for Veterans Act, which would require the Secretary of Transportation to establish a pilot program to provide flight training to eligible veterans in an effort for more veterans to become commercial pilots. I want to ensure that Veterans are aware of all the benefits they are entitled to so they can ensure a smooth reentry into their communities. Veterans have always been at the forefront of my concerns and will continue to be throughout the 118th Congress and beyond. | I voted for the PACT Act, a law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances. This law helps us provide generations of Veterans—and their survivors—with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve. Here are a few tips for making your VA claim more successful: - Locate your DD214. This will be needed for a records search.
- Gather all medical records from active duty until the present. To gather active duty records you may need to apply at Request Your Military Service Records (including DD214) | Veterans Affairs (va.gov).
- Contact a Local Veteran Service Officer (VSO) and place an Intent to File in your profile.
- Work with your VSO to gather any NEXUS letters from physicians that may be needed.
- File your claims through your VSO. Making sure the claim is filed within the one-year period.
