John,
The Republican Party wants the media to tell you that Republicans won’t cut Social Security. Don’t believe them―look at their budget.
Last night, Congressional Republicans released a plan to cut Social Security by $1.5 TRILLION.
THIS is the Republican plan for Social Security―to slash it to ribbons and let their Wall Street paymasters profit from the ruins. Social Security Works will stop them, but only if we stand together! Can you rush a donation today?
This plan is chock full of draconian attacks on Social Security:
-
It completely eliminates survivors’ benefits for spouses and children, punishing women who take time out of the workforce to care for children.
-
It uses a stingier calculation to determine how benefits keep pace with inflation―meaning seniors will struggle even more with rising prices.
-
It revokes Medicare’s hard-won power to negotiate lower prices on prescription drugs, transferring money from seniors’ pockets to Big Pharma donors.
-
It accelerates the privatization of Medicare.
80% of the House Republican caucus belongs to the Republican Study Committee, which released this budget.
Fortunately, this budget has no chance of becoming law. It is a messaging document meant to communicate to voters what Republican priorities are. That’s what’s so frightening about it: No one asked them to cut $1.5 trillion from Social Security.
Republicans are sending a message to Wall Street-funded dark money operations: Back us and we will take trillions that working Americans have earned through a lifetime of hard work and use it to cut taxes for the ultra-rich.
Last week, Donald Trump told CNBC that there’s “a lot you can do [...] in terms of cutting.” This budget shows the sheer size of the cuts Trump would consider if he was back in the White House with a Republican Congress.
The media has spent more time discussing Donald Trump’s use of Snapchat filters than his support for cutting Social Security. Social Security Works has a plan to change that―but we need your help. Can you rush a donation today?
Thank you,
