Hi John, I’m thrilled to share that California’s Proposition 1 has passed! 🎉 We’re grateful to the election workers throughout California who took the time to make sure every vote was counted for this statewide measure. 🗳️ Prop 1 is a transformative measure, one that will refocus billions of dollars in existing funds to prioritize Californians with the deepest mental health needs, living in encampments, or suffering the worst substance use issues. This means that tens of thousands of Californians who are struggling to live and get by will get the care they deserve: mental health services, substance abuse care, and housing so they can live, recover, stabilize, and thrive. ✊ Local Measure Success! We also achieved a local win with San Francisco’s Measure A, which passed with a landslide victory that secured 70% of the vote! This measure is a General Obligation Bond that would unlock $300 million in funding for affordable housing in San Francisco, resulting in 1,500 units of affordable housing for working San Franciscans like teachers, nurses, and first responders! |

Our key takeaway is this: California and Bay Area voters are hungry for change. Housing affordability and homelessness are top of mind, and now is the time to strengthen and deepen our work toward solutions that advance housing justice. Right now, we’re working with our state and regional coalition partners on a transformational electoral strategy for November 2024, one that will make it easier for localities in California to get the affordable housing their communities need. Learn about our state campaign and regional campaign. There is one thing I’m certain of this election cycle: we are successful at the ballot box when we all come together and do our part! Thank you to our members and partners for stepping up and making it happen this election cycle. I’m excited and filled with hope for what we can accomplish this year that puts first the needs of our diverse and vibrant communities. |
