BY U.S. REP. SYDNEY KAMLAGER-DOVE (D-CALIF.) | Last month, the Alabama State Supreme Court ruled that frozen embryos are children. The result: In vitro fertilization, or IVF, was paused for women across the state.

BY KIERIA | Front and Center is a groundbreaking Ms. series that offers first-person accounts of Black mothers living in Jackson, Miss., receiving a guaranteed income. First launched in 2018, the Magnolia Mother’s Trust (MMT) is about to enter its fifth cohort, bringing the number of moms served to more than 400 and making it the longest-running guaranteed income program in the country. Listen to United Bodies—a new podcast about the lived experience of health, from Ms. Studios, on Apple Podcasts + Spotify.
On the final episode of United Bodies, we’re talking about accessing joy amidst the deepest of suffering, amidst any circumstance even while staring down our own mortality—because ultimately, that is true freedom. Choosing and experiencing joy can be difficult for so many reasons—be it our knack for comparison or shame, or our resistance or fear of embodiment and presence. Our guest today, poet Andrea Gibson, proves that navigating these forces are worth it to experience the fullness that joy can bring to our lives.
