Register now for annual Vanderheiden Memorial Run

Runners on a trail

Enjoy time outdoors while supporting mental health awareness and state park trails.

Registration is open for the fourth annual Tyler Vanderheiden Memorial Run, a race aimed at raising awareness and understanding of mental health that also acts as a fundraiser for state park trails.

Runners can choose to sign up virtually to run or walk a 2-mile or 5-mile distance from anywhere in the country. They can also attend the annual event on May 25 at Cody Park in North Platte.

Pillen acknowledges 50 years of Hunter Education

Gov. Jim Pillen signed a proclamation March 18 recognizing the 50-year anniversary of Hunter Education in Nebraska in 2024.

The Hunter Education program began in Nebraska in 1974 and Bowhunter Education program in 1994. The program has reached more than 200,000 students. Commission data shows that since that time, hunter incident rates have fallen by more than 80 percent.

Two state records set at state NASP tournament

Two state records fell at the 18th annual National Archery in the Schools Program state tournament March 15-16 at the Sandhills Global Event Center in Lincoln.

NASP is an in-school curriculum covering target archery for students in grades 4-12. The state tournament is the largest archery event in Nebraska.
