John,
Hey the email before had “#rentstrike” as the subject line, so we just wanted to clarify that while we hope neighbors organizing together do what is best for them, it's important for rent strikes to have a strong network of support. This coalition is starting first with organizing to demand our elected officials take action and #CancelRent, and through that campaign build a more powerful base of organizing citywide so we can escalate our tactics if those in power fail to meet our demands.
PURR is connecting tenants who share a landlord and helping them make their collective demands and take whatever collective action they decide is best. The more people take action, the more likely we are to win. Of course, all collective action taken in solidarity with fellow tenants and workers will be supported by PURR.
Canceling rent means that no rent is due during the crisis, no evictions take place, and rent does not have to be paid back after the crisis is over. This is what we are advocating for with #CancelRent. Feel free to read the petition for further clarification.
