That's how many women have safely used mifepristone, one of two drugs used in medication abortion and to manage miscarriages, since it was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) more than 20 years ago.

Yet next Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in a case threatening to reimpose dramatic and outdated restrictions on access to mifepristone across the country — along with undermining the FDA's entire scientific system of drug approvals.

The case at issue is Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine v. FDA, a lawsuit brought by anti-abortion activists seeking to cut off access to mifepristone—which accounts for more than half of all abortion care in the United States.

In a nutshell, this is an attempt to come after abortion access in states where it is legal and/or protected. The Center for Reproductive Rights and its partners have served as amici in the case, highlighting the importance of mifepristone and rejecting the junk science on which the anti-abortion extremists rely.
