As we all adjust to a new normal and cope with the full impacts of COVID-19 we want to remind parents and preventionists across Ohio that we have tools, research, and expertise to support Ohioans of all ages. For the next 40 days, Prevention Action Alliance will share a practical tip at 1:00 p.m. that you can use immediately to support a happy, healthy, safe, and drug-free family, home, and community.
Practical Principle 2: Positive Family Communication
Young person and their parent(s) communicate positively, and young person is willing to seek advice and counsel from parent(s).
Guiding Growth
To feel comfortable talking openly with family members, think about a “family statement wall” in your house.
The Everyday Prevention Practical Principles are based on the Developmental Asset Framework established by Search Institute. 40 positive supports have been identified to help young people succeed. Half of the assets highlight external relationships and opportunities to be successful in school, family, and the community whereas the remaining 20 focus on internal strengths that are nurtured within a young person. The Developmental Assets may be reproduced for education and non-commercial uses only.
