Dear John,
Each year U.S. pipelines leak as much as 2.7 million tons of methane into the atmosphere, a danger that threatens the health of our communities and our planet.
But there is something we can do about it – and that’s find the pipeline leaks and fix the issue with the help from the proposed Advanced Leak Detection & Repair Rule.
If approved by the Department of Transportation, this rule will strengthen protective standards, improve community safety and curb climate emissions at the same time. The Advanced Leak Detection & Repair Rule is a win for climate and safety! But to protect the health and safety of our communities we need it to be approved now.
Sign our “Plug the Pipeline” petition today and call on Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg to finalize the rule this spring!

Cutting methane emissions is the fastest opportunity we have to slow global warming. But figuring out where to start can be difficult. When this plan is put into action we’ll have powerful new tools to fight against pollution from the oil and gas pipeline sector.
This plan will include strong standards for monitoring, increased transparency through mandatory reporting and regular surveys for leak detection. It will also apply these protections to an even wider range of gas gathering pipelines, tackling methane emissions from sources big and small.
Every moment wasted not tackling this issue allows oil and gas companies to neglect climate-harming emissions from leaky pipelines, that’s why we need your help now.
Help deliver a win for our climate and safety. Sign our petition and tell Secretary Buttigieg to take immediate action on leaky pipelines.
