OCA COVID-19 Toolkit & Website

Our Civil Rights Fellow, Matthew Nguyen-Ngo, has worked tirelessly the past month to create our much-anticipated COVID-19 resource toolkit. We shared this on our website and via email to our chapter presidents and communications folks. For those of you who have not seen it yet, the link is listed below.

We have a special landing page for COVID-19 resources on our website. We will be updating this list of resources, media, corporate responses, and more. The website is https.://www.ocanational.org/oca-covid19-home

Here's what we worked on in March!
  • We worked with the Communications Department to write a letter (with 180+ organization sign-ons) urging the White House, Department of Justice, and Federal Bureau of Investigation to take action on hate crimes that target AAPI communities.
  • Our Civil Rights Fellow created the OCA COVID-19 Toolkit for our chapter and community members
  • We were featured by several news organizations discussing COVID-19 related discrimination

  • We endorsed a long list of COVID-19 relief bills, including the Supporting Students in Response to Coronavirus Act, the Small Business Relief From Communicable Disease Induced Economic Hardship Act, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, the Resilient Elections During Quarantines and Natural Disasters Act, and the Student Debt Emergency Relief Act.

  • We continued to work with our partners in NCAPA in asking House and Senate leadership to denounce COVID-19 related racism.

  • We built strategic relationships with organizations such as the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education, American Indian Higher Education Consortium, Civil Rights Coalition, and the National Immigration Law Center to request that our national leaders support minority serving institutions of higher learning, extend Lifeline internet and telephone service, and include immigrant communities into the COVID-19 relief bill.
