John,
Jared Kushner’s shadow coronavirus task force appears to be violating multiple laws by using private email accounts and meeting in secret, with no guarantee that records are being preserved.
That could violate multiple laws: both the Presidential Records Act and the Federal Advisory Committee Act. CREW sent a letter to the White House Counsel asking him to ensure that Kushner’s shadow task force is complying with the law, by preserving records and making records, minutes, and other documents available to the public, as required by law. Read more here.
As the pandemic worsens, the public deserves to know who is making policy decisions in the White House, which industries are exerting influence, and how decisions are being made. Record keeping and transparency has never been more important, and when we are past this crisis, we must have the full picture of how the White House responded. That is the only way we can be prepared for the future.
Jared Kushner is not above the law, and neither is his shadow task force.
There is no excuse for hiding information from the public in the midst of a pandemic. You can help build pressure for transparency by sharing our letter on Facebook, Twitter, or by forwarding this email.
Thank you for your support,
Noah Bookbinder
