The Biden Administration can do more to help repair the harms caused by the federal government’s war on cannabis consumers.

John,

In October 2022, President Joe Biden issued a pardon proclamation for people with federal convictions for certain low-level federal marijuana offenses, and he expanded the pool of people eligible for those pardons in December.

The presidential pardons have helped thousands of people alleviate some of the stigma and collateral consequences associated with their federal marijuana records, and they represent one of the biggest steps any sitting president has taken to address the decades of injustices associated with cannabis prohibition.

But the Biden Administration can do more to help repair the harms caused by the federal government’s war on cannabis consumers.

Please use this pre-written letter to urge the Administration to a) expand the pool of people eligible for pardons, b) take immediate action to grant clemency to those currently incarcerated for federal nonviolent marijuana offenses, and c) explicitly direct federal agencies to deprioritize low-level marijuana enforcement.

The White House is increasingly receptive to our message. Your words matter. That’s why it’s important to take action now.

PS: If you have a federal conviction for cannabis possession and you think you may be eligible for a pardon, an online portal for those who wish to apply to receive a written pardon certificate is available from the Department of Justice.
