Friend–
To further combat the spread of the Coronavirus and follow the guidelines of the CDC and other experts, Team Doug is 100% practicing social distancing. We all have to do our part to stop the spread and make sure that our hospitals can take care of the people who need help.

We’re fully adapting our campaign plans to adjust to this new reality. The normal campaign things like going door-to-door, shaking hands, and holding rallies are just about the worst things we can do right now and would expose everyone involved to needless risk.

Because of COVID-19, the runoff election between Tommy Tuberville and Jeff Sessions to decide Doug’s opponent has been pushed to July 14 to protect voters and poll workers. So on July 14, we’ll know who our opponent is, but if you’ve been paying attention to what they’ve been saying you know that both of them are way too extreme and too divisive.

Our data shows we have a clear path to beat either of them. We have to do two main things, and we have to start now:
Make sure as many Alabamians as possible hear what Doug’s working on and know about his accomplishments. You’re already on Team Doug, but we need to get the same message that has you excited and ready to support Doug out to hundreds of thousands of voters in Alabama – because we know that when they hear Doug’s message it sticks. That’s our “persuasion” universe.

2. Make sure as many of our supporters know how and where to vote as soon as possible. That’s our “Turnout” or “GOTV” universe. Once we’ve identified our supporters, we need to make sure we can get their vote counted. With all the uncertainty about election dates and how to vote, we have to make sure voters get the right information.

We’ve identified hundreds of thousands of voters who need to hear from us. If they do, we’re going to win. All of this starts with building a relationship now so that when it comes to election time, they are expecting to hear from us and ready to make sure Doug stays in the Senate.
This is not a secret plan. We have the best possible data directing our staff and future volunteers – we know exactly who we have to talk to. The bottom line is that we can’t stop organizing.

And we’re not going to stop organizing. We’re replacing those rallies and door to door canvasses with phone banking, texting, and digital organizing. We’re going to use artificial intelligence to tell us to a person who we need to talk to, and then our organizers and volunteers are going to talk to them one-to-one. No spam. Real conversations.

Our team is hard at work (from home) installing these platforms and getting our lists of target voters ready. Soon, we’ll be reaching out and asking you to help with those texts, calls, and digital messages. But first, we need to make sure we can fund this program.

I’ve talked to my team and we’ve set an ambitious goal of $37,760 for our Digital Organizing Fund. This is not a made-up number. We know it’s going to cost us about eight cents per person to do the outreach we need to do. Our first round of targets is 255,400 people in our “turnout” universe and 216,600 people in our “persuasion” universe. That’’s 472,000 Alabama voters, and at $0.08 per person, that’s going to cost us $37,760.
Will you pitch in and help make sure we can do it? [[link removed]]

Thank you for reading this far. We really appreciate your help. I know we can do this. Dealing with this virus is already changing our lives, and it’s already changing the way we think about campaigning, but we’re going to do our part to slow the spread of this virus while making sure Doug wins this fall.

We’re all in this together. Please stay safe and practice social distancing.
