Judge Allows Trump to Appeal Decision To Leave Fani Willis on Prosecution Team

National Review: Former president Donald Trump and other defendants in the Georgia election-interference case have the go-ahead to appeal last week’s ruling that allows Fulton County district attorney Fani Willis to continue to lead the prosecution, the judge has determined. In a short order on Wednesday, Fulton County Superior Court judge Scott McAfee granted the defendants’ request to appeal his Friday ruling to the Georgia Court of Appeals before the trial begins. On Monday, eight defendants, including Trump, requested what is known as a “certificate of immediate review” over the ruling. In his Friday ruling, McAfee found that defense lawyers failed to meet their burden of proving that Willis acquired an actual conflict of interest in the case through her romantic relationship and travels with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she hired for the case (National Review). Reporter Phil Holloway: Judge grants “certificate of immediate review” in the FaniWillis disqualification motion. This means the Court of Appeals has to also approve, but it’s likely to be allowed. The issue is too important (X). Legal Fellow Anna Bower: Next steps: Trump and his co-defendants have 10 days from today to file an application for appeal at the Georgia Court of Appeals. The Court of Appeals must then decide whether to take up the case within 45 days of the date on which the application was filed (X).

New York AG Denies Trump’s Request To Stay His $464 Million Settlement Amid Issues To Come Up With the Cash
ABC: New York Attorney General Letitia James is pushing back on Donald Trump’s “extraordinary” request for a stay of his $464 million civil fraud judgment, arguing the former president’s recent request was unreliable, procedurally improper and based on a flawed premise. “There is nothing unusual about even billion-dollar judgments being fully bonded on appeal,” Senior Assistant Solicitor General Dennis Fan said in a filing this morning. “Defendants object to a possible ‘fire sale’ if they were to sell assets to generate cash to use as collateral for a bond or as a deposit —but the alternative would be to shift the risk of executing on defendants’ illiquid assets to OAG.” Earlier this week, Trump’s lawyers argued that the former president is unable to secure a bond for the judgment – having been rejected by over 30 insurance companies – due to its size and his need to post properties as collateral (ABC). Washington Post: If Trump does not post a bond as he appeals the civil judgment against him, James’s office could begin the process of seizing his assets — including major New York properties such as 40 Wall Street and Trump Tower. It is unclear how soon such an enforcement effort would begin, but James allowed a 30-day grace period that ends Monday. She has signaled that she was prepared to seize assets if Trump’s fine is not paid (Washington Post). News Source Breaking911: Kevin O’Leary slams corrupt NY AG Letitia James: “It has absolutely nothing to do with Donald Trump at this point. This is an attack on America. And I don’t know how you can look at it any other way” (X).

Mayo Clinic Prioritizes People of Color, Criminals Over White Nurse Applicants
HotAir: According to this job posting, Mayo “prioritizes” certain classes of individuals during their hiring processes to “BUILD AN INCLUSIVE AND JUST EMPLOYMENT ECOSYSTEM.” When you read through who a “just ecosystem” consists of in Mayo’s world, it’s as if the list of approved victim classes were transposed onto their job listing (HotAir). Libs of TikTok: Top healthcare company Mayo Clinic is discriminating against straight white people in their “inclusive” hiring practices. Even criminals are being prioritized to be hired as nurses. How does this ensure patients will receive the best medical care possible (X)? Charlie Kirk: Mayo Clinic in Phoenix is hiring from every conceivable people group except straight white people. The wokeness just oozes: Refugee, Neurodivergent,    Single Parent, Blind or Low Vision, Deaf or Hard of Hearing, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Military Veterans, Elderly, LGBTQ, Justice-Impacted Individuals (CRIMINALS) (X).

Scotland Set To Become Most Censored Country in the West
This is why the First Amendment is so important. Telegraph: Next month, the infamous Hate Crime and Public Order (Scotland) Act finally comes into force. Essentially, it allows the courts to jail individuals for up to seven years for saying, writing or posting any comment that is deemed to “stir up hatred” against a protected group, including disability, race, religion and, inevitably, transgender identity. Leaked training material produced from Police Scotland suggests the force will specifically target performers, with officers advised that offending material could be communicated “through public performance of a play.” It risks making Scotland one of the most censorious in Europe (Telegraph). HotAir: But what if you’re not “hateful?” What if you’re just a normie going about life, expressing your opinion, perhaps thoughtlessly making a wee joke, God forbid, in public? Best check the helpful list the Scottish constabulary has put together before you open your piehole. Or squint in someone’s direction. Because it’s not what you thought you said, but what someone thought they heard that’ll be what gets you. Then again, maybe it wasn’t even spoken. Maybe someone merely interpreted a glance in their direction as “cruel eyes.” That counts, too, you know. Better watch your eyeballs (HotAir).

Over 200,000 Deportation Cases Thrown Out Because of Unfiled Paperwork
Daily Wire: The Biden administration failed to file court papers in hundreds of thousands of deportation cases, which were as a result tossed by judges. The Department of Homeland Security enforces immigration laws by issuing a Notice to Appear (NTA) to each illegal immigrant and filing it in court. But in approximately 200,000 cases in which NTAs were issued to aliens at the border, triggering the creation of a court date, DHS never filed the actual paper with the court. In immigration courts in Houston, Texas, and Miami, Florida, both immigration hotbeds, more than half of their deportation cases have been dismissed for that reason since fiscal year 2021 (Daily Wire). Trac Immigration: Additionally, immigrants, usually asylum seekers these days, who then show up to scheduled hearings only to find out they have no case after all are left without any means of making an asylum claim. To actually move forward and gain a Court hearing on their asylum claim, immigrants need to have a case before the Immigration Court. Also, until a formal asylum petition is filed, asylum seekers cannot generally obtain work permits. These dismissals therefore potentially extend the time and difficulties that individuals, and their families, face in securing food, shelter and other essentials while waiting for a work permit (Trac Immigration).

Vice President Harris Ties Her Political Future to Abortion
Albert Mohler: Vice President Kamala Harris went to Minnesota last week in order to make history, the White House claimed. She made history, to be sure. She became the first U.S. president or vice president to visit an operational abortion facility. Harris’s move becomes the latest forward advance of the Culture of Death. Now, a facility that exterminates unborn human babies becomes a background for a campaign event and the foreground for making abortion central to the presidential campaign—and at every political level. Harris delivered comments in the facility’s lobby, warning of threats to abortion rights nationwide. “These attacks against an individual’s right to make decisions about their own body are outrageous, and, in many instances, just plain old immoral,” Harris said. “How dare these elected leaders believe they are in a better position to tell women what they need, to tell women what is in their best interest.” She concluded: “We have to be a nation that trusts women.” Well, Kamala Harris is a woman we can trust to worship unreservedly at the altar of abortion. Vice President Harris surely knows that her political future is tied to the re-election of President Biden. She also knows, even better than the rest of us, her chances of becoming president if Biden is re-elected. She intended to send a signal with her attention-getting visit to the abortion facility and her eager advocacy for abortion rights. She did send a signal. She and her party are dead-set on making abortion central to American culture. That’s why Kamala went to the death camp (World).

Federal Reserve Maintains Current Interest Rate in Meeting
CNN: The Federal Reserve held its key interest rate steady Wednesday for the fifth consecutive meeting, as the central bank awaits more data to determine when to cut rates. The Fed has raised rates aggressively over the past two years in a bid to fight the highest inflation in decades. But while Americans continue to deal with high interest rates and inflation, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said the central bank is still not ready to lower borrowing costs just yet (CNN).  Yahoo Finance: “At this meeting, we discussed issues related to slowing the pace of decline in our securities holdings,” Fed Chair Powell says. “While we did not make any decision today, the general sense of the committee is that it will be appropriate to slow the pace of run off fairly soon” (X).

Bernie Moreno Wins GOP Senate Primary in Ohio, Eyes Radical Opponent
Fox News: Trump-endorsed businessman Bernie Moreno moved on in the Ohio GOP Senate primary on Tuesday night, setting up a match-up with entrenched Democrat incumbent Sen. Sherrod Brown in a race that is expected to focus on Brown’s support of President Biden and Democrat concerns over the MAGA agenda. While Brown is expected to attempt to thread the needle between being a Democrat and running in a now dependably red state, he carries a record of voting with Biden nearly 100% of the time. Moreno has already signaled he plans to focus on Biden’s low approval numbers and polling that shows dissatisfaction with the economy (Fox News).

AOC to Hunter Biden’s Former Business Partner Tony Bobulinski: “RICO is not a crime”
National Review: Challenged by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez during a Wednesday hearing to cite a specific law President Biden violated, Hunter Biden’s former business partner Tony Bobulinski accused the president of breaking racketeering and corruption laws through his participation in his son’s foreign business dealings. The president violated federal laws against unregistered foreign lobbying and participating in a criminal conspiracy when he met with Bobulinski, Hunter, and Jim Biden in May 2017 to discuss the possibility of forming a business venture with a Chinese conglomerate, Bobulinski testified during an appearance before the House Oversight Committee (National Review). Benny Johnson: Tony Bobulinski causes AOC to have a total meltdown after saying Joe Biden committed crimes (X). Post Millennial: AOC: “RICO is not a crime” (X).

Only 32 Percent of Military Families Still Promote Service to Prospects
Daily Wire: According to a survey conducted by an advocacy organization for military-affiliated communities, only one-third of military families would still recommend military service, a 40% drop since 2016. In 2016, 55% of active-duty military families recommended military service, compared to just 32% in 2023. Blue Star Families and Syracuse University’s Institute for Veterans and Military Families found that although the top issue disturbing them was time spent away from their families, increasing inflation was a major issue as it caused food insecurity. Other issues included the lack of jobs for military spouses and poor mental and physical health care (Daily Wire).
