Nearly 130 years after the first three women were elected to state legislative office in the U.S. — women remain massively underrepresented in our state legislatures across the country.
This is despite the fact that women have been registering and voting at higher rates than men in every presidential race across all demographics since 1980.

Representation matters, John. In many red states dominated by men, we’ve seen near and total abortion bans since the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022.
Meanwhile, women leaders across the country have been at the forefront of pushing for reproductive freedom, common sense gun reform, public education, housing and healthcare proposals.
This Women’s History Month, Sister District remains committed in our efforts to provide women a seat at the table where crucial decisions are being made in state legislatures every single day.
