Well, I’d say it’s hard to believe I’m emailing you about yet another potential government shutdown caused by Republican recklessness – but this situation was 100% predictable.
This Saturday at 12:01 AM is our deadline to pass spending legislation to keep the government open. And, as usual, Republicans have brought us to the brink because they just cannot get things done .
Not only is this irresponsible non-governing risky for our economy – and the millions of people who rely on government services! – operating under a near-constant threat of shutdown means that instead of focusing on making progress and improving people’s lives, the House has to spend inordinate amounts of time simply keeping its own doors open.
Republicans flat-out can’t govern, and the American people deserve better.
I’m going all in to flip the House and secure a Democratic majority this year so we can get back to a functioning government, but we’re going to need all hands on deck to get it done.
