After serving in the Navy, she found herself grappling with a question too many parents, especially mothers, deal with every day: Should she continue working, or postpone her career until her kids get to kindergarten?

Child care is just too expensive — period. New data even suggests that child care costs more than an average family’s monthly mortgage payment.

That’s why Mikie is leading the fight for affordable child care in Congress — including by introducing legislation that would ensure no family pays more than 7% of their income on child care expenses.
