Dear John,
As our country faces the threat of COVID-19, Americans are being advised to stay in their homes and self-quarantine. For most, quarantine is the safest option. Self-isolating in our homes will protect us from potentially contracting this harmful virus or spreading it to our friends, family, and neighbors.
For those experiencing domestic abuse, however, we know that staying home is not always the safest option. Women and men living with their abuser may have nowhere else to go, and this environment is made even more dangerous when their abuser has access to a gun.
At the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, we know that guns and domestic violence are a lethal combination. More than 1 in 4 homicides in the United States are related to domestic violence, and a woman is five times more likely to be murdered when her abuser has access to a gun.
Our team is committed ([link removed]) to preventing domestic violence by championing legislation that will remove firearms from domestic abusers and fighting to ensure that these laws are implemented in the most effective way possible!
As we work to enact these important policy measures, we would also like to recognize and thank all frontline domestic violence service providers who are working day and night to keep people safe! These healthcare workers, hotline operators, and shelter staff are true heroes.
We need your help in order to continue our work to disarm domestic abusers! Today, we are asking you to pitch in to support our life-saving work. Will you donate $10, 25, $50, or $100 to support our efforts: [link removed]? Every dollar counts!
Thank you for your support and stay safe.
Warm regards,
Josh Horwitz
