🏛️ More Revenue for Affordable Housing!

Plenary from Housing California

Earlier this month the NPH team attended this year’s inspiring Housing California Conference! During the afternoon plenary, “Financing Our Future: Campaigns to Grow our Revenue for Affordable Housing,” NPH Executive Director Amie Fishman talked about the impact of ACA 1 and the transformative opportunity it offers to unlock billions of dollars in local communities for affordable housing and homelessness solutions.

As we continue to work through the necessary amendments to ACA 1, we want to continue strengthening the breadth and power of our coalition by bringing folks in and engaging them on the issue. We need #HousingActionNow!

🏘️ NLIHC Releases The Gap: A Shortage of Affordable Homes

NLIHC Gap Cover for 2024

Last week the National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) released its annual report The Gap: A Shortage of Affordable Homes. This year’s report affirms that the trends we've been tracking in the Bay Area and California are happening nationwide: There are simply not enough affordable homes for our friends, family, and neighbors, to the tune of 7.3 million missing homes nationwide. In California, there are only 24 affordable and available rental homes per 100 extremely low-income renter households.

But it doesn't have to be this way. The report calls for greater federal investments in the preservation and expansion of the affordable housing stock, more Housing Choice Vouchers to bridge the gap between renters’ incomes and rent, and emergency assistance for renters who experience unexpected short-term financial shocks. This report also emphasizes the urgent need for policy action to ensure housing affordability for all. Here in California, we're exploring ways to empower local communities with the tools they need to fund affordable housing locally.
