Applications opening soon: $148 million in infrastructure funding
Grants and low-interest loans available for construction, pre-construction and emergency local public infrastructure projects
At its March business meeting, the Public Works Board (PWB) approved $148 million in funding available for local construction projects.
The funding cycle opens April 8, 2024 and closes June 28, 2024 at 11:59 p.m..
The PWB also took action to set aside $7.3 million each for the pre-construction and emergency programs, which are open continuously.

- The PWB Construction loan program provides funding for repair, replacement and the building of capital facilities.
- The Pre-construction program supports a wide range of activities needed to accelerate the completion of public works projects so that capital construction can be funded in a timely manner.

Emergency loans focus on activities that repair, replace, and/or reconstruct essential service facilities.
All PWB funding is available to cities, counties, special purpose districts and quasi-municipal organizations.
Application workshops in April
To support the application process, PWB staff will host online Zoom workshops throughout the month of April. Both the Pre-Cycle Overview and the Application Workshop will be offered twice and at different times to maximize opportunities to learn about PWB funding. No registration is required to attend.

PWB Application Workshops will discuss the PWB application and review frequently asked questions from previous cycles.
Quarterly pre-construction application review
Pre-construction funds remain open continuously until all funds are exhausted. We expect to review applications and award pre-construction projects quarterly on the following schedule:

Summer 2024: Review of applications received as of June 28, 2024 with an anticipated award date of August 2, 2024.

Fall 2024: Review of applications received as of September 30, 2024 with an anticipated award date of November 2, 2024.

Winter 2025: Review of applications received as of January 10, 2025 with an anticipated award date of February 7, 2025.

Spring 2025: Review of applications received as of March 31, 2025 with an anticipated award date of May 2, 2025.
About the Public Works Board
The Public Works Board was created by the Legislature in 1985. Since its creation, the 13-member board has awarded more than $3.1 billion in loans and grants to over 2,000 infrastructure projects across the state. The purpose of the board is to encourage self-reliance by local governments in meeting their public works needs and to assist in the financing of critical public works projects by making loans, grants, financing guarantees, and technical assistance available to local governments for these projects.
