// FROM THE DESK OF ALICE Y. HOM, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CHANGE PHILANTHROPY

Show Up for DEI: CHANGE Philanthropy's DAPP Survey

Dear Colleagues,

As the backlash against diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts surges in various sectors, it’s critical that philanthropy remains committed to and vocal about issues of equity at the intersections of race, gender, class, sexual orientation, and ability. To that end, CHANGE Philanthropy invites foundations and grantmaking institutions to participate in the 2024 [[link removed]] Diversity Among Philanthropic Professionals (DAPP) survey [[link removed]]. Participating in the DAPP is one step a foundation can take to ensure they are not retreating from addressing inequity and promoting inclusion in their workplace.

The DAPP is unique in that it solicits anonymous, self-reported information directly from individuals working in philanthropy about their identities and experiences, helping grantmakers better understand their workforce and leadership, as well as assess the culture and climate of their institution. This brief, seven-minute, survey allows respondents to self-identify their race, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, and disability status, and perception of safety, well-being, and happiness in their workplace. CHANGE Philanthropy uses this data to create the DAPP report, which provides a temperature gauge for progress toward a more inclusive sector. Read the 2022 DAPP Report on our website [[link removed]], and check out some of our community snapshots [[link removed]] and regional focus infographics [[link removed]].

To help you consider participating this year, we’ve distilled the benefits and participation requirements down into this value proposition [[link removed]]. We’ve also recorded this informational webinar [[link removed]] that outlines the features and benefits of the DAPP with some helpful visuals. At a time when opponents of DEI seek to erase our communities and history, your participation in this year’s DAPP is crucial to keeping our communities visible and their needs at the forefront of philanthropic investment. Please reach out to [[email protected]] for any further questions and sign up [[link removed]] before March 22nd.

Sincerely,

Alice Y. Hom
