Dear Neighbor,
I hope you and your families are safe and healthy. I am reaching out with important information for our students and parents!
Congressional Art Competition
This year I am excited to announce and invite our students to participate in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition: An Artistic Discovery!
Each Spring, Congress sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in our nation. This is a great opportunity for our students to recognize the importance of the arts in education, showcase their artwork, and have the chance to win scholarships!
Additionally, I am excited to announce that the overall first place winner will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to display his or her artwork at the U.S. Capitol for one year!
This competition is open to all high school students who live in California’s 38th Congressional District. Artwork must be finished and submitted to my Whittier office by Thursday April 11th, 2024, before 5pm. To learn more about the competition please visit my website here or contact [email protected]. I look forward to all the amazing art submissions and highlighting the talented students in our district!
An art show and awards ceremony will take place in late-April to recognize all of our student participants. More details will be provided upon entry submission.
FASFA Guidance
As many of you know, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) was delayed this year and faced technical issues, making it impossible for students whose parents do not have a Social Security Number to complete their forms. I know that this issue may have caused unnecessary stress during an already stressful college application process, and I was proud to work with my Democratic colleagues in sending a letter to the Department of Education urging them to resolve this issue.
I am happy to share with you that the Department of Education has released new guidance here for students who have been unable to complete their forms.
I hope that our students can use this updated guidance to successfully submit their FASFA forms and be granted the appropriate aid. Every child deserves a chance to go to college, regardless of their financial or socioeconomic status.
As always, if you require any assistance with a federal agency, please do not hesitate to call my Whittier office at (562) 860 – 5050.
Sincerely,
Linda T. Sánchez
Member of Congress
