Students should not have to go hungry to pursue a college education, but too many today are faced with that choice. I know what it's like to be a student struggling to make ends meet – at times, I used food stamps, now known as SNAP, to help me get through college and law school.

Higher education should be accessible and affordable to everyone who chooses that path. I've introduced legislation to help fight this crisis and to increase access to food assistance for students. The Opportunity to Address College Hunger Act would require universities to inform students participating in work-study programs of their eligibility for SNAP food assistance, conduct outreach, and offer help and guidance to get students enrolled.

I've heard from many students about the challenges they face in putting food on the table for themselves and their families. The Opportunity to Address College Hunger Act will help them overcome barriers to the SNAP program and get access to nutritious food. This will help more students and reduce the stigma around food assistance.

Thank you for standing with me,

Suzanne
