My name is Saima Akhtar, and I’m a Senior Attorney with the National Center for Law and Economic Justice. I’m reaching out to ask for your help to support the critical work of our organization as we approach our first major fundraising deadline of 2024.
If you’ve already donated to our campaign, I’d like to thank you for your support and urge you to share this message to your network.
If you have yet to give, then the time to act is now.
In Alaska, we’re suing the State over their massive SNAP backlog which has denied thousands of vulnerable people the food benefits they need to stave off hunger and severe poverty.
Thanks to our intervention last year, the State cleared its first backlog of over 10,000 people by the end of September 2023, issuing $6.6 million in SNAP benefits. Our litigation continues as we press for a permanent fix to Alaska’s ongoing SNAP processing problems.
The National Center for Law and Economic Justice advances racial and economic justice through ground-breaking impact litigation, policy advocacy, and support for grassroots organizing. We have provided legal representation and support since 1965.
