At least 60 percent of the drinking water in the U.S. is contaminated by toxic forever chemicals, according to the latest Environmental Protection Agency estimates. This is a crisis.
Toxic chemicals called PFAS have contaminated the water supplies of communities nationwide, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has failed to protect the public. PFAS chemicals never break down and can be found in almost everything from water to food to fabrics, causing serious human health risks.Â
The PFAS Action Act would set clear definitions and deadlines for the EPA to set enforceable limits on all types of PFAS in drinking water and designate them as hazardous substances. It would also:
Require the EPA to limit the industrial discharge of PFAS.
Provide $200 million annually for wastewater treatment.
