Trump asks Supreme Court for "absolute immunity" in election interference case
The serially indicted fraudster told his hand-picked justices on the Supreme Court that they must give him "absolute immunity" for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election on January 6, 2021, or else it would "incapacitate any future president" if they were prosecuted for "official acts" once they leave office. Read that again. Special prosecutor Jack Smith's team has rightfully argued that creating a grand conspiracy to try to overturn an election doesn't count as an "official act" even if he was president when he tried to do it. Two courts have already rejected Trump's bullshit arguments, leaving the Supreme Court as the final arbiter for whether the cult leader will face justice for his crimes — and any future crimes he might commit if he somehow manages to weasel his way back into the White House. The idea that the president of the United States should have "absolute immunity" is terrifying and flies in the face of every value that our country purportedly stands for.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Trump-appointed judge takes action that is grounds for removal from his case
Judge Aileen Cannon has crossed the line with her efforts to tank, delay, and obstruct Trump's stolen classified documents case — to the point where Jack Smith has serious grounds to have her kicked off the case entirely! Cannon caused her latest stir when she proposed to instruct jurors that a president has sole authority to declare records personal, which legal experts say is "insane" and would amount to dismissing the case against Trump entirely. It's clear Cannon's finger is tipping the scales in Trump's favor, and it's well past time for so Smith to take legal action against her.

Innocents are starving en masse in Gaza
MoveOn: Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians—including children—are starving right now in Gaza, the food crisis deeply exacerbated by the US abruptly ending funding for the UNRWA, the biggest humanitarian group operating in the ravaged enclave. Will you add your name to tell President Biden to resume funding for the UNRWA ASAP before more children die?
Federal appeals court order puts Texas law allowing police to arrest suspected migrants back on hold hours after disastrous SCOTUS ruling
In a deeply troubling decision with sweeping consequences, the right-wing justices of the Supreme Court voted to let Texas set its own immigration policy in defiance of the federal government. The policy? Oh, just institutionalized racial profiling and fast-track deportation for "suspected migrants," which we all know translates to "brown people." The high court did not address whether or not the law was constitutional; that matter was left to a lower appeals court, which immediately blocked the dangerous new law from taking effect, but the case will likely be back before the Supreme Court in short order. It is unclear when Texas will begin arresting and deporting migrants, and where the people they round up might go; the law calls for the immigrants to be dumped in Mexico, no matter their country of origin. Unsurprisingly, Gov. Greg Abbott and his goons did not consult with Mexico, which condemned the law and has refused to accept deported migrants from Texas "under any circumstances." Any legitimacy the Supreme Court had left is surely in the dumpster after this latest application of "Calvinball" law.

Jared Kushner urges Israel to "finish the job" and move the Palestinians into the desert, says Gaza’s "waterfront property could be very valuable"
Holy shit, surely he did not actually say that out loud. Not even Jared "f*cking" Kushner could be that cruelly forthcoming, right? Right? RIGHT?

GOP lawmaker called to resign for invoking colleague’s name while reading a rape scene during debate
In today's episode of "what the actual f*ck is wrong with Republicans," Nebraska State Sen. Steve Halloran sparked a tidal wave of outrage during a debate over banning books by reading an extremely graphic rape depiction from the book "Lucky" and interjecting the name of female Sen. Machaela Cavanaugh at the end of every line. Cavanaugh was rightfully FURIOUS. "You don’t know anything about anyone else’s life, and I can tell you that women in this body have been subjected to sexual violence. I didn’t know you were capable of such cruelty. That was so unbecoming of you and unbecoming of this body, and I hope that some other people who are Republicans will stand up and defend me," Sen. Cavanaugh said. Just when you think Republicans can't go any lower...
Democratic state senator who needs an abortion calls out her colleague's cruelty to their faces
Arizona State Sen. Eva Burch is tragically facing an unviable pregnancy and took to the Senate floor to describe in great detail the hoops she has had to jump through to secure an abortion. Despite knowing for weeks that her pregnancy is likely to result in a miscarriage, the Democrat from Mesa has not yet received the care she needs. She slammed the restrictions that the state GOP has imposed as "a cruel and uninformed attempt by outside forces to shame and coerce and frighten me into making a different decision other than the one I knew was right for me...There’s no one-size-fits-all script for people seeking abortion care, and the legislature doesn’t have any right to assign one." Most of the Republican cowards all fled the Senate floor before she began speaking, unwilling to face even a crumb of accountability for their deeply misguided and dangerous decisions.

Laken Riley's father criticizes politicization of his daughter's death: "She was much better than that"
The tragic death of Laken Riley, a Georgia nursing student killed by an undocumented immigrant while she was jogging, was immediately seized by racist, right-wing Republicans as an excuse to demonize and fearmonger about immigrants writ large. But Riley's father doesn't appreciate all these bad-faith conservatives exploiting his daughter's death, telling NBC News, "I feel like she’s being used somewhat politically ... It makes me angry. She was much better than that. She should be raised up for the person that she is. I'd rather her not be such a political, how you say — it started a storm in our country. and it's incited a lot of people." The fact of the matter is that undocumented immigrants are much less likely to commit crimes than native-born Americans, and the biggest threat to women in America is intimate partner violence. And thanks to the very same Republicans politicizing Riley's death, abusive partners all over the country are allowed to own guns to kill their spouses with — and in some cases even force them to stay trapped in dangerous relationships with unwanted pregnancies they cannot legally abort.
Texts reveal more Russia ties for key anti-Biden witness
Republican House clowns behind the sputtering impeachment inquiry into President Biden scheduled a public hearing on Wednesday in a Hail Mary attempt to iron out alleged "inconsistencies" in witness testimony. That's one way to put it. But GOP goons breathlessly clinging to any hopes of taking down Dark Brandon might want to start with, uh, the one witness the GOP impeachment team has cited as their "most credible by far." Former Hunter Biden business associate Tony Bobulinski has provided testimony riddled with inconsistencies, including statements that contradict claims in the FBI’s own write-up of their interview with him just ahead of the 2020 election. Oops! How is this futile impeachment charade even still a thing?
US-trained Niger junta kicks out US troops, shutters drone base
A recent visit by a delegation of high-level US officials to the military junta of Niger apparently went so poorly that the US has been kicked out of the country entirely. "The government of Niger forcefully denounces the condescending attitude accompanied by the threat of retaliation from the head of the American delegation," said Col. Maj. Amadou Abdramane, who declared that the US-Niger counterterrorism cooperation pact violated the country's constitution. The expulsion will kick out more than 1,000 US military personnel and shutter the half-billion-dollar drone base that operated as a key piece of the United States' shadowy military network across Africa. Those bases have entirely failed to bring security to the region; deaths from terror attacks have skyrocketed as the US troop presence — and the civilian casualties from drone strikes — has grown.
Ohio GOP candidate accidentally sends concession email before polls close
If you think you had a bad day at work, just remember you could be the comms guy for Ohio MAGA Senate candidate Derek Myers, who accidentally sent out a concession email — the day of the election four hours before polls closed. The team scrambled with a follow-up email that demanded readers "DISREGARD CONCESSION EMAIL" and then released a statement explaining that "it’s not uncommon to have speeches and releases prepared in the event of each outcome, especially on such an impotent [sic] night. It’s simply good strategy." Derek Myers finished the night with just 1.5% of the vote. Talk about a failure to launch!
