People are hurting. Last week alone, 3.3 million people filed for unemployment benefits—the most in a single week in our country’s history.[1]
And while low-wage and hourly workers are often the first to be impacted by a downturn in the economy, this pandemic is threatening low- and middle-income families alike.
Restaurants are closing or scaling back to a skeleton staff, handling take-out orders only. Many mom and pop stores are shuttering with their very survival at stake.
Dental and eye doctor practices are closing, likely for months without pay.
We know that you may be experiencing real economic uncertainty right now, and we want you to know that we’re fighting for you every day. We must ensure that each round of COVID-19 response legislation from Washington helps those who are most impacted by the pandemic. And we’re fighting back against tax breaks for corporations that don’t have the American people’s best interests in mind.
While many families and individuals are nervously watching their finances, we too have seen a slow-down in contributions since the beginning of the pandemic. Thankfully, this month, you can support ATF without opening your wallet.

While Wall Street has an army of lobbyists in Washington, demanding even more tax breaks for corporations and the super-rich, you have ATF, fighting to ensure that Congress’ economic stimulus packages directly support those most in need.
We’re fighting to repeal the more than $210 billion in tax breaks for businesses that Mitch McConnell and Republicans embedded in the last bill. That money needs to be going to communities hardest hit, including hospitals and health centers.
