[ [link removed] ]Pigs crammed into tight quarters in a shipping container
John,
An unimaginable stench of faeces and ammonia has engulfed Cape Town ever
since a ship carrying 19,000 live cattle docked in the harbour more than
two-and-a-half weeks ago!
These farm animals, like the billion others that are transported for
fattening and slaughter each year, have travelled for weeks crammed on a
filthy, overheated cargo ship under awful conditions. But it doesn't have
to be this way.
Europe is the biggest exporter of live animals, and right now the EU and
UK are considering a ban on this animal cruelty. With elections coming up
fast, we have an incredible chance to get politicians across Europe to
back the ban. But to pull it off, we really need to step up our campaign.
With just $5 from every Ekō member, we could launch an
all-out push: commissioning new polling and research, lobbying behind
closed doors, running targeted ads, exposing companies behind the
opposition and whatever else it takes. Can you chip in to ban this animal
cruelty for good?

First, 14,000 sheep drowned in the Black Sea and nobody seemed to care;
then, 19,000 cattle were found in a boat, crammed in a build-up of faeces
and urine for two-and-a-half weeks. And still, no one cares. But we do,
and we can't let this cruel business go on.
From Europe to New Zealand and Australia, governments are shyly discussing
regulations to strengthen animal welfare standards. But they are under
immense pressure from the agriculture lobby, who care only about higher
profits, even if it means killing millions of animals and putting billions
through hell.
That's why we need your help to take our animal welfare campaign to the
next level. Together we can fight to make sure that no more animals go
through this kind of pain and suffering while they are transported.
That means quickly ramping up our work in the EU as well as the United
States, Australia, Mexico, and Brazil to get them all on
board. John, together we can stop this animal cruelty – can
you chip in now to help?
