Our Demands

Today, we call attention to the urgency of governments adopting progressive tax measures to finance public services, while, at the same time, reducing the burden of regressive taxes on formal and informal caregivers.

Join us on Twitter ([link removed]) , Facebook ([link removed]) and LinkedIn ([link removed]) by posting the demand cards ([link removed]) along with the message:

“Governments must 📈 increase taxes on the wealthy and corporations to finance the cost of quality public services, easing the burden of 🧹🍲👩🏾‍🍼unpaid care work on women. #MakeTaxesWorkForWomen”

Consult the campaign toolkit ([link removed]) for more ideas on what to post.

ICYMI Highlights

The second day of the campaign, Tuesday March 19th, was dedicated to raising the call for recognition of women’s experiences and care work in tax policy formulation.

Reflecting on this topic, Veronica Serafini, gender and macroeconomics specialist at Latindadd and member of the Tax and Gender Working Group Steering Committee representing Red de Justicia Fiscal de América Latina y el Caribe (RJFALC) noted that:

“Investment in care must be supported by universal public policy and fair financing, based on a tax system that collects revenue equitably. The responsibility for care and social reproduction should be redistributed throughout society, both in terms of time and fiscal responsibility for financing. Without social reproduction, there is no sustenance of life or economic production.”
