Congresswoman Emilia Sykes Wins Democratic Nomination for Ohio’s 13th District

Pledges to Continue Prioritizing Lower Costs, Protecting Reproductive Freedom, Keeping Communities Safe, and Increasing Access to High Quality, Affordable Healthcare
AKRON, OH – Today, Congresswoman Emilia Sykes released the following statement after securing the Democratic nomination for Ohio’s 13th Congressional District:

"I'm proud to have earned your support to be the Democratic nominee for Ohio's 13th Congressional District," said Congresswoman Sykes. “I’m running for reelection to continue our work building on the progress we’ve made to lower costs, protect our fundamental freedoms, keep our communities safe, and increase access to affordable, quality healthcare. As we look to November, I’m focused on fighting everyday for Northeast Ohioans and confident that this team will be victorious.”

Sykes is serving the second year of her first two-year term representing Ohio’s 13th Congressional District. Her top priority is making government work for her district. She has introduced important bills to improve the lives of constituents across the district, including the Lower Your Taxes Act to expand the Earned Income and Child Tax Credits and the Safer Homes and Families Act to protect victims and survivors of domestic violence. During her tenure, she has brought back more than $115 million in federal dollars to the district, including $42 million to improve public transit in Northeast Ohio. Sykes also helped secure Akron’s designation as a tech hub for polymer development, meaning the region is eligible for hefty federal grants funded from a $10 billion reserve set aside in the CHIPS Act.
