As we take precautions to protect the health and safety of our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to participate in the census.

Hi John,

The invitation to the 2020 Census has arrived in mailboxes across our country and it is essential that every Texan — regardless of citizenship — complete their census form. As we take precautions to protect the health and safety of our communities during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is more important than ever to participate in the census.

Why?

Because once a decade, our country’s population is counted to ensure our communities receive the funding and representation that we deserve.

Get Counted!

Completing the census will have a huge impact on our state. The count will decide how many seats Texas has in Congress — projections show that we’re looking at adding 2 or 3 seats — as well as how federal dollars are dispersed in our state. The census data will inform decision makers in all sectors on community needs — everything from education funding, headstart and school lunch programs to health care infrastructure, housing, transportation, and much, much more.

Get Counted!

This year there are many ways to fill out the census. You can complete it by mail or by phone or — for the first time ever! — online at My2020Census.gov. In this time of COVID-19, please take advantage of these self-response methods to keep your communities safe.

However you decide to complete the census, make sure you fill it out. Let’s ensure our families and communities don’t lose out on important resources and representation for the next decade.

So, please take a moment to complete the census. We are encouraging our grassroots network to complete the census by Census Day (April 1, 2020). The deadline to self-respond was recently extended to August 14, but don’t wait. Remember, your voice counts! Being counted as a member of your community means the opportunity for representation. Together, we can ensure we’re counted.

More information about the 2020 Census is available here. Please take a moment to forward this email to friends and family members who need to know about the census too!

In this together,
