My DFL colleagues and I worked tirelessly with community leaders to make sure Minnesota became the 11th state in the country to pass the Clean Slate Act during the 2023 legislative session. After a long and hard-fought battle, we secured a victory that will benefit all Minnesotans. This is a critical step in addressing the deep disparities within our criminal justice system. The law will automatically expunge records for non-violent, non-felony crimes starting on Jan. 1, 2025.
It was an honor to be a part of this historic movement and vote ‘yes’ to ensure this bill was passed into law despite the ongoing opposition by extremist Republicans. In Minnesota, every person deserves to be treated with dignity, and that includes those who have made mistakes. By focusing on rehabilitation and reintegration, we can create a justice system that fosters positive change. When we offer people a fair shot at a second chance, we not only uplift individuals but also strengthen our communities by reducing recidivism and building a future built on hope and opportunity.
Help spread the word! Share this event about the upcoming expungement clinic and make a difference. The clinic is designed to expedite the process for individuals with adult felony convictions. This expungement service demonstrates a commitment to facilitating a fresh start for those seeking to rebuild their lives.
