*LANSING, Mich. ?* Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced the appointment of Jennifer Smith Deegan to the 31st Circuit Probate Court for St. Clair County and Susan Longsworth to the 44th Circuit Court for?Livingston County. ?

?

?I am proud to appoint Jennifer and Susan to the Circuit Court today,? *said* *Governor Whitmer*. ?They both bring decades of experience to the bench and will serve the people of St. Clair and Livingston counties well.??

Jennifer Smith Deegan is the senior assistant prosecuting attorney in the St. Clair County Prosecuting Attorney?s Office. She has worked in the prosecuting attorney?s office since 1999, initially as an assistant prosecuting attorney and then as the senior assistant prosecuting attorney. Additionally, she served as a law clerk for three different circuit court judges in the 31st Circuit Court, and as a staff attorney for Consolidated Legal Services in Southfield. In 2014, Smith Deegan received the David M. Schieber Life Saver Award. She currently sits as Board Chair for Lake Huron Medical Center. ?

Jennifer Smith Deegan received her Bachelor of Arts in International Business and French from Alma College and her Juris Doctor from Wayne State University School of Law. ? ?

?

This appointment was made to fill a partial term following the resignation of Judge Elwood L. Brown. Ms. Deegan Smith?s term will commence on April 8, 2024, and expire at twelve o?clock noon on January 1, 2025. ?

Susan Longsworth is a solo practitioner in Howell focusing primarily on criminal defense. Previously, she served for a decade as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Washtenaw County Prosecutor?s Office, and as a law clerk for the Honorable Susan Dobrich of the 43rd Circuit Court. In addition, Susan Longsworth is a member of the Livingston County Bar Association, Oversight Policy Board for Substance Use Treatment and Prevention, and Women Lawyers Association of Michigan.?

Susan Longsworth received her Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Spanish Language and Literature from Marquette University and her Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.?

?

"I am honored to receive this appointment, and for the opportunity to serve my community on the Livingston County Circuit Court bench," *said Longsworth*. "I look forward to working with my colleagues and the legal community to continue to build trust in our judiciary and emphasize fairness, justice, and compassion in our legal system." ?
