New Combined County Authority launched

Authority

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is an historic day for Derbyshire, Derby, Nottinghamshire?and Nottingham as we launch the first ever East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA).

The day starts with the first formal meeting of the new authority, where we will discuss plans to improve the economy, create affordable, good-quality housing and support work to bring green spaces and nature back into communities and improve healthy life expectancy, especially in the region?s most disadvantaged communities and places.

The EMCAA board is made up of the four leaders and deputy leaders from Derbyshire, Derby, Nottinghamshire?and Nottingham.

Key partners and stakeholders have also been invented to help celebrate the launch of the new authority after the board meeting, with attendees getting the opportunity to hear from myself and other council leaders about how this will make a difference.

The Government has committed to giving the EMCCA access to up to ?4 billion in funding, some of it as core spending over the next 30 years and some of it to invest in specific initiatives.

?Take A Seat? campaign relaunched

Take A Seat

Age Friendly Nottingham is relaunching its ?Take A Seat? initiative tomorrow (Wednesday) as part of a national 'The Age Without Limits? Day of Action [ [link removed] ].

This scheme is important because it aims to tackle issues of social isolation by motivating older people to feel confident about leaving their homes and playing an active part in the local community.

My colleague Linda Woodings has helped launch the campaign by asking us all to recruit 20 premises across our wards in Nottingham to take part in Take A Seat.
