I have something important I want to talk with you about, John.
North Carolina’s public schools are educating the future leaders of our state — I should know. My mother was a public school teacher. Our children attended public schools, and I am a product of public schools myself. This issue is deeply personal to me.
But how are our students supposed to succeed when we invest about $5,000 less per student than other states?
John, our public schools are underfunded, and we need to do something about it.
That starts with ending the GOP’s voucher scheme, which is diverting millions of dollars of taxpayer money away from the schools and students that need it most and sending it instead to private schools with no taxpayer accountability. Even millionaire parents can pick up a government voucher check for keeping their children in private schools.
