In honor of Women’s History Month, we’re celebrating trailblazers like Maria and the progress she’s made uplifting women in Washington state and across the country… Making History: 1992 “The Year of the Woman” Maria is elected to Congress Patty Murray is elected to the Senate with Carol Moseley Braun, Dianne Feinstein, and Barbara Boxer (The first time 4 women were elected to the Senate in a single year!) 2000 Maria is elected to the Senate, becoming the 3rd woman to defeat an incumbent senator
