Dear Friend of MCV,

Transportation is the leading cause of climate changing emissions in Maine 1 – and ramping up adoption of clean cars by implementing Advanced Clean Cars II standards is one of the best actions we can take to address the climate crisis and protect public health.

For almost 20 years, Maine has followed a nonpartisan process through the Board of Environmental Protection (BEP) to adopt more robust emissions standards because we value clean air and healthy communities. The process incorporates input and comments from thousands of Mainers, including many legislators.

A last minute bill, LD 2261, would undermine this nonpartisan process – slowing progress on climate action, giving Mainers fewer choices, and holding Maine back. Along with our partners in Maine’s Environmental Priorities Coalition, we have made defeating LD 2261 a late breaking priority.

The opposition is fierce. That’s why we’re asking for your help, at the last minute, to show an outpouring of support for clean cars and climate action. Here are two things you can do:

1. 8:30 AM tomorrow, Wednesday March 20: The BEP will vote on the Advanced Clean Cars II standards tomorrow at 9 AM – and we need to show that Mainers support clean cars and clean air! Join a gathering outside of the Civic Center at 8:30 AM tomorrow and wear blue for clean air.

2. 1 PM tomorrow, Wednesday March 20: Say NO to LD 2261! Please join us in testifying against LD 2261 at tomorrow’s public hearing. You can show up to testify in person – or sign up to testify virtually or submit written testimony by clicking here [[link removed]]. Please select “Public hearing,” then “Environment and Natural Resources.” Then select “March 20 2024 1:00 PM” and check off “LD2261.” To help craft your testimony, see our fact sheet on LD 2261 here.[[link removed]]

If you have any questions or would like help writing testimony, please respond to this email.

Thank you for all you do,
