Dear Friend,

These past few weeks have been tough. Really tough.

With the constant stream of new information to process, practicing social distancing and having to learn new ways to be with friends and family, losing those to COVID-19, and the overwhelming feeling that life as we knew it in New York City will not be the same…

Yes, these past few weeks have been tough.

As New Yorkers, we are unaccustomed to sitting on the sidelines and retreating to our homes when things get tough. However, in this crisis, we must stay home as much as possible - but that doesn’t mean we are sitting on those sidelines.

Like you, for the past few weeks, we’ve had to set up a whole new system of making sure we can do our jobs and serve people - all while working from home.

What started with questions about the virus, access to health care, and setting up school from home has now turned to basic needs: access to unemployment insurance and food.

Over the coming days and weeks, I’d like to share with you some of the creative ways neighbors are helping neighbors - and, if you are able, you can help too. And, while City Hall is setting in motion mechanisms to meet basic needs, we are working to augment their efforts with policy suggestions - ideas generated by listening to those with firsthand and frontline experience.
