The Humane League

I was reading the latest report on egg markets when a figure caught my eye.

40.2%.

For the first time ever, the US cage-free flock has climbed above the 40% mark. That means for every 10 hens on factory farms, four of them are now spared from cages.

a bar graph showing the percent of hens out of cages, increasing from 4% in 2009 to 40% in 2024

This graph reflects current USDA numbers, accounting for a 2021 adjustment to the historical data.

This didn’t just happen because corporate executives woke up one day and suddenly decided to do better for animals. This happened because you forced their hand. It happened because groups like The Humane League—backed by supporters like you—have been putting sustained, concentrated pressure on corporations to end cruel cages.

To me, there’s no clearer proof that we are unstoppable.

For a hen in a battery cage, life is nothing but constant misery. Sharp bars underfoot. Polluted air that stings her eyes. No space to rest, get comfortable, or even spread her wings.

We’re concentrating all our efforts on eliminating these disastrous cages from the face of the planet. Starting a monthly gift is one of the single most effective ways you can help—by providing the reliable funding we need to keep this pressure mounting against corporate animal abusers in the critical months and years to come.

Six out of every ten chickens are still suffering in cages. And we’re coming for them.

Are you with us?
