Urge your Democratic Members of Congress to reverse H-2B visa increase
Dear activist,
As it has done in recent years, Congress once again yielded its authority to regulate the ultimate number of visas issued under the H-2B guest worker program to President Trump and the executive branch. Earlier this month, the Department of Homeland Security said it would allow an additional 35,000 temporary foreign workers to come to the U.S. to fill non-farm seasonal jobs amid a gradually tightening labor market. The additional visas, on top of the 66,000 that are always authorized each year under U.S. law, would add up to the highest total under President Donald Trump.
Approving more foreign workers was the wrong decision then and it is the wrong decision now.
Many Americans are hurting right now, and with the unprecedented specter of continued coronavirus (COVID19) fallout ahead, the economic pain in the United States may only be beginning. We must do everything we can to support American workers and the American economy, first and foremost.
Congress should reassert its authority over the H-2B program, reverse the Trump Administration's decision to increase foreign worker visas, and open up those job opportunities to Americans who need them. A suspension of H-2B would provide support to Americans who have just lost jobs and want to go back to work to provide for themselves and their families.
We should protect every opportunity for Americans to work and have a paycheck, even more so under the "new normal."
