Stars and Stripes | Coronavirus deaths at VA hospitals tripled over the weekend
Twenty-seven veterans have died from the coronavirus – the number of deaths at Department of Veterans Affairs hospitals tripling since Friday.
In total, the death toll in the United States reached 2,500 on Monday. President Donald Trump announced over the weekend an extension of the country’s social distancing guidelines through April 30, and Dr. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert, estimated that 100,000 to 200,000 Americans could die during the pandemic.
Air Force Times | Guard soldier becomes first service member to die after testing positive for COVID-19
A New Jersey Army National Guard soldier died on Saturday after contracting coronavirus and being hospitalized on March 21, the Pentagon announced Monday night.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy identified the soldier as Capt. Douglas Linn Hickok, a drilling Guardsman and physician assistant originally from Jackson, New Jersey.
Hickok is the first service member to die after testing positive for COVID-19. An Army spouse died Thursday of COVID-19 complications, following the March 21 death of a Washington, D.C.-area contractor. |
