Dear John,

Given the crisis situation facing our communities and our country, we have decided to postpone our May 28 Regional Housing Leaders Awards Ceremony and 15th Anniversary Celebration until the fall. We will however, continue to highlight our organizational housing achievements and those of our 2020 Regional Housing Leaders throughout the year. They are:

The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments
Delegate Alfonso Lopez, 49th District, Virginia General Assembly
Helen McIlvaine, Director, Office of Housing, City of Alexandria
Stratford Capital Group, recipient, William L. Berry Sustainable Communities Award

We also want to acknowledge our generous sponsors and supporters of this event. We look forward to celebrating with all of you in the fall.

For now, NVAHA will continue to monitor local government response to the coronavirus, and the budgetary impact on affordable housing resources. We have created a Regional COVID-19 Response page on our website, focusing on actions by localities with regard to evictions, homeless services, rent relief, support for nonprofit developers and human service providers, and budgetary changes as well as links to state and federal resources. We've tried to target local response information, but we're interested to hear if you'd like to see links to other resources. Be sure to check out the Northern Virginia Regional Commission's excellent webpage which we've included.

Our immediate focus will be advocacy for the needs of residents who have lost jobs, people experiencing homelessness, and our nonprofit partners who are struggling to cope with this devastating crisis. But when we recover from this pandemic, our collective work will resume. Working toward the goal of housing affordability for the region, we will create stronger, more diverse communities in which no one is left behind.

Thank you to our local and state elected officials who work to keep us safe, minimize risk and protect those who are vulnerable.

Thank you to our nonprofit organizations who are working around the clock to care for those in our communities who are frightened and in need.

Thank you to the medical professionals and first responders who risk their lives daily to care for us.

Thank you to everyone for all you do each day. Please stay safe and be well.
