Dear John,
My team and I arrived from Minnesota yesterday to advocate for the permanent protection of the Boundary Waters in D.C.
There are multiple terrible pieces of legislation that are making their way through Congress that seriously threaten the future of our Canoe Country. Congressman Stauber is aggressively seeking to force sulfide-ore copper mining just upstream of the Boundary Waters.
In the past year, he introduced a Resolution to rescind the current 20-year ban on sulfide-ore copper mining on federal lands in the Wilderness headwaters. This Resolution is widely acknowledged as unconstitutional because it seeks to change the law by bypassing the President’s signature.

Right now, we are preparing for the likelihood that Congressman Stauber will push for:
The passage of legislation to rescind the 20-year mining ban in the watershed of the Boundary Waters.
The granting of federal leases and mine plan approvals to Antofagasta.
Rest assured, we have set up over a dozen meetings this week with elected officials and staffers to ensure that these pieces of anti-Boundary Waters legislation don’t pick up any more steam. Right now, I’m walking over to the Rayburn Building to Minnesota Rep. Angie Craig’s office to discuss the importance of protecting the Boundary Waters permanently.

That’s where I need your help. A long-time Boundary Waters supporter who is passionate about our work to protect the Wilderness just put forward a generous gift of $50,000 in matching gift funds!
We must make the Boundary Waters a forever Wilderness by pushing for permanent protection of this beloved landscape to prevent any future threats from toxic mining while simultaneously defending against Rep. Stauber’s anti-Wilderness agenda.
So don’t wait - help us take advantage of this opportunity and donate today [[link removed]] to make twice the impact on protecting the Boundary Waters.
