Actions for the week of March 18, 2024
Happy Start of Spring, Activists!
The longer days and promise of fair weather (any day now!) have us excited to get out in nature and connect with life beyond our walls. It’s a great time to take in the world around us, show up, and raise our voices for clean air, green energy, and environmental justice. These simple actions will help you spring into a high-impact, climate-forward season.
Action 1
🤑🏗️🙅♀️ Tell Governor Hochul and Commissioner Christian: REJECT National Grid’s $3.8 Billion Rate Hike
In 2022, National Grid slammed New York City and Long Island residents with utility rate increases so that they could expand their fracked gas system. In 2023, the company was back, demanding more money from customers to (AGAIN) invest in their fracked gas system with ANOTHER rate hike that will raise everyone’s bills by an average of $30 a month.
Why should ratepayers foot the bill for National Grid to keep on building out their planet-poisoning infrastructure? It’s high time we ditch fossil fuels and transition to renewables. Sign on to demand that Governor Hochul prevent another rate hike!
Action 2
🏭💨✋ Strengthen and finalize the Climate Pollution Rule!
The EPA is in the process of finalizing carbon pollution rules. Rules 111b and 111d of the Clean Air Act would be the first-ever carbon regulations for existing power plants and, if implemented, would require coal and gas plants to cut or capture nearly all of their emissions by 2040. This is a big deal. Emissions from existing power plants comprise about 25% of our country’s greenhouse gases.
Join us in telling EPA Administrator Michael Regan that Americans can’t wait for clean, pollution-free air. Strengthen and finalize the carbon pollution rules as soon as possible!
Action 3
