My Week in Congress - March 11

Last week, I launched the Democrats for Border Security Task Force alongside my friend Representative Tom Suozzi.

I am proud to be leading a group of 26 House Democrats determined to change the narrative on border security. As Democrats, it is essential that we can be strong on border security while also respecting immigrant rights and values.

We continue having the same conversations about border security without progress. It is especially frustrating since the Senate put together a bipartisan border bill, but before we even had a chance to debate its contents, it was killed due to election-year politics and interference by President Trump.

Any border security legislation that can pass Congress must be bipartisan. The conversation continues to be defined by far-right and far-left voices. We need to come to the middle to get things done.

It’s time we get to work for the American people by putting aside politics and passing the bipartisan Senate border bill to secure the border.

My Week in D.C.

Met with the Spanish Ambassador

As Co-Chair of the Congressional Friends of Spain Caucus, it was an honor to welcome Ángeles Moreno Bau, the new Spanish Ambassador, to the U.S. Capitol.

Met with the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association

Thank you to the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers for stopping by my DC office to discuss priorities for the upcoming Farm Bill reauthorization.

I will always support agriculture in South Texas.

Met with the UT Health Science Center

It was great to see friends from UT Health San Antonio and the San Antonio Spurs this week.

They are doing important work to improve health care in San Antonio, and I am pleased to support their efforts in Congress.

Welch Road Groundbreaking Ceremony

It was a pleasure to join Webb County Commissioner Wawi Tijerina in Laredo as we celebrated upgrades to Welch Road.

These improvements were made possible by $500,000 in Community Project Funding I was able to secure. I will keep working to improve roads & infrastructure in South Texas.

We discussed how the Republican party killed the Senate bipartisan border bill and the state of the crisis at our border.

Laredo Morning Times

I am pleased to see the federal funding I secured be put in good use to improve Webb County's infrastructure, especially in rural areas.

These funds will help improve multiple streets that serve colonias around Welch Road.
