John —
We won a huge victory in Utah.
Thanks to quick and nimble work from the RepresentUs community and our partners on the ground, we are proud to report that we stopped an attack on democracy in its tracks!
Here’s what happened: without warning and seemingly overnight, the Utah House of Representatives tried to pass a bill ending the state’s Ranked Choice Voting (RCV) pilot three years early and banning use of the system altogether — despite overwhelming support from voters, who say RCV is easy to use and that they would like to keep it.
Our volunteers sprang into action, mobilizing Utahns to speak up and convince the State Senate to vote in opposition of the RCV ban.
We heard directly from Utah Senators that the hundreds of calls and emails that flooded estate offices in the days leading up to the vote made a MASSIVE difference in how they voted.
Make no mistake, this isn’t the only time we’ve had to defend RCV, and it won’t be the last.
I see this as a sign that our movement is winning and that the RepresentUs community is strong.
We were able to mobilize hundreds of supporters at lightning speed because we’ve built this movement together city-by-city, state-by-state. This is proof positive of the strength of our movement, and of our ability to be effective and strategic when we need to be.
Thanks for all you do to fight corruption and put power into the hands of we, the people.
