LIGHT BULB
I Had An Epiphany Watching A Kid Have A Meltdown ([link removed])

“I recently watched a friend’s kid have a total meltdown at elementary school drop-off one morning,” writes Laura Onstot. “While his sister cheerfully skipped through the gate, he firmly planted his feet to the ground, girding his loins for a stand down, complete with an audience. My friend bent down and talked to him, staying grounded even as he escalated. She gently nudged him toward the gate, while he continued his efforts to retreat in the opposite direction. Negotiation tactics were failing, and neither party was willing to back down.”

She’d been there before — we all have! But something about watching it happen from the outside gave her a new perspective on her own parenting. Check it out.

You might’ve seen the news about Olivia Munn’s breast cancer diagnoses — and maybe it rattled you and made you ask some questions about what sorts of screening you should be doing. Arielle Tschinkel has answers: “For starters, it's worth noting that there are two free and easily accessible breast cancer risk assessment tools online — one of which Munn's doctor used — that can help start the conversation with your own provider.” Definitely read the whole thing.
