BREAKING: The Supreme Court just declined to hear Cowboys for Trump founder Couy Griffin's 14th Amendment disqualification appeal

John,

By refusing to take up this appeal, the Supreme Court keeps in place the finding that January 6th was an insurrection, and confirms that states can still apply the 14th Amendment’s disqualification clause to state officials.

This reinforces the conclusion of every decision-making body that has substantively considered what happened at the Capitol on January 6th: it was an insurrection, and Donald Trump engaged in that insurrection.

Now it is up to the states to fulfill their duty under Section 3 to remove from office anyone who broke their oath by participating in the January 6th insurrection.

CREW is fighting to make sure that insurrectionists across the country are held accountable for participating in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election, and that they can never serve in office again. Support our work by making a donation today →

When Otero County Commissioner Couy Griffin mobilized and rallied rioters to breach the Capitol grounds on January 6th, he violated his oath by participating in and aiding the insurrection. He had to be removed from office.

CREW took the case to court. At trial, CREW and our co-counsels presented reams of evidence of Griffin’s mobilization, incitement and participation in the insurrection, including numerous photos and videos of his actions and speeches on January 6 and the weeks surrounding it.

The evidence was clear – and a New Mexico judge ordered in September 2022 that Griffin be removed from office, effective immediately, ruling that the attack on the Capitol was an insurrection and that Griffin’s participation in it disqualified him under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.

Now, that decision was left in place by the Supreme Court – which is great news for our fight to hold *all* insurrectionists accountable.

The 14th Amendment can be used by states to disqualify state officials from office. We need to make sure that it *is* used.

CREW is fighting to hold insurrectionists accountable and we need your help to do it. Please support our work by making a donation to CREW today →
